CLAY and Children's TOYS

Special Edition Newsletter

We all want to protect the health of our children. With that in mind, we will be presenting some interesting research articles that we hope are helpful.

The Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs), has released a report that Polymer clays contain chemicals that may threaten children's health. In a study released by this orginazation, they stated that Phthalates contained in these types of modeling clay are associated with reproductive disorders, birth deformities, and other health effects.

The reports go on to say, "Independent tests have shown that many plastic toys, including common teething toys, contain as much as 40% by weight of toxic phthalates, which may leach into children's bodies. The chemicals are probable human carcinogens and have been shown to have some of the characteristics of "endocrine disrupters" - chemicals that cause reproductive abnormalities."
